Building learning in through play

After three years of having some learners come in ready for the level one pathway, we now have a class with ORS tamariki and some developmental needs.

Trying to get the balance right is tricky - though we have been here before but not for a long time.

It is back to pulling out the Ara Ako framework and also figuring out other ways of capturing learning for these tamariki other than the bog standard assessment route.

One of our early intervention teachers has put me onto this site which is Ministry recommended so I will be really having a good look around it and figuring how to tap some of the ideas around social/emotional skills, maths and literacy.

We are also utilsing the Google Notebook for capturing and assessing where to for learning needs and I think it is a game changer.

I have taken on the LSC role this year - doing the three years of study at Massey really helped my SENCO role become more like a LSC. Shiralee will take on the ORS teacher role.

I think having the team and identifying what help there is in regards to networking is my next step, and also refamiliarising myself with the LSN site will be helpful and jumping on any webinars that I feel will be a good support to help me with identifying where to with some of the needs of our tamariki.

The other supportive thing is having the new Expanded English Framework curriculum out and I am trying to get aquainted with that.
